It seems that no one in Foa Foa knows how to make fire with a flint, except Ben. Even Ben tries to give them some tips, no one has successfully made the fire. Wow, you came to this game without any preparations? Anyone knows that someone (forgot the name…) from some previous season lost 1 million dollars because he did not know how to make fire? Amazing!

Meanwhile, Russell (the devil) tells Ben that Ashley was gunning him, because he wants to keep him around for some time.

Both tribes get their tree-mail and receive some dry clothes, bathing suits. We know there would be a water challenge.

Two members from each tribe will race out to fetch a crate, facing a member from the opposite tribe on their way, who will try to stop them. After they have all four crates, they need to stack them and make sure that there are no repeating colors on any side. Winner gets immunity and rewards. (Wonder why they only do one challenge per episode…) Russell (the devil) sits out, together with Shambo, Yasmin, Brett and Erik.

Foa Foa made another bad decision on assigning jobs to their members, Ashley and Ben both fail to stop Galu from getting their crates, giving them big advantage on stacking the crates. Although Foa Foa work very hard to catch up, they miss one side, and Galu wins again.

Russell (the good) has to face a tough decision, to have more camp items or to take comfort items. Within seconds, he picks comfort, because he thinks he needs to keep the women happy to make the whole tribe happy. But the men are not happy with his decision.

Russell (the good) also sends Shambo to Foa Foa to observer them. She gets along with Foa Foa quite well than she is with Galu, everyone seems to like her. Then she open the note and learn about the second clue of the hidden immunity idol and start searching for it. If the idol was not found by Russell (the devil), she might have found it.

Russell (the devil) tries to get people to vote Ashley out, he shows the idol to Mick to gain his trust. (Another dumb move, I think). However, Jaison is completely against it, calling it ridiculous. And both Russell (the devil) and Mick seem fail to convince him.

At the tribal council, Jaison says he would trade Shambo for Ben. Ben bluntly says he will vote Ashley because she is the weakest link. Then Ben and Jaison start to go at it. Jaison makes the entire thing about race. But to be fair, Ben did make some offensive comments, he never made any comments about Jaison or anyone else being black.

After some tense argument, time to vote. Everyone vote for Ben, he’s sent home.

Next episode, we’ll see how Foa Foa struggles without fire.

All teams set out from the Mekong Delta on moving boat, on the way to find a puppet theather in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. All teams try to find taxis except Lance and Keri, they just run around trying to find the theater as they think they’re in Ho Chi Minh City. My doubt of Lance being a lawer grows much higher now. Has he won any case?

Flight Time and Big Easy are the first to reach the theatre, where they have to pull small clues from the mouths of dragon puppets, darting back and forth in the water. There is a bullet in each clue, containing a stamp of a building, their next stop. Each team has their own creative way of getting the clues, teasing with the puppet, attacking it, etc. And everyone quickly finds the stamps inside the bullets, except Lance and Kerri, again. They wasted time going around asking for clues.

The building’s a post office, where they find their first detour: Child’s play or Wor Play. In Child Play, teams have to move a animal figurine from one side of the park to the other, gathering five balloons on the way. For Word Play, teams have to go to the top of a hotel and look down on the busy crossroad, searching for six letters on various transportations going around it. Then they’ll have to unscramble the letters to form “doc lap”, a Vietnamese word for “independence”.

Everyone opts for Child Play, only Marcy and Ron go for the Word Play.

Sam and Dan try to help Maria and Tiffany when they hit a snag with their dolly, nice guys. Though Maria and Tiffany ask them to move on without them, good competitors. Zev and Justin chooe the giraffe statue, the largest of all, and end up smashing it. Lance, loses one of the balloons, almost loses his emotions as well. Marcy and Ron are doing quite well at first, then they have some trouble getting the last letter. By the time they get all six letters, most of the other teams have left the park for their next stop. Instead of asking the locals, they try to unscramble the letters by themselves, thinking the word could be on a sign nearby.

The clue they get after finishing the detour lead the teams to a chop shop at a busy intersection, there a Roadblock awaiting. Each team is given 2 VCRs, they have to break it down and sort the parts into piles. Flight Time and Big Easy, Meghan and Cheyne are the first two teams to arrive and get to work neck and neck. Back to Marcy and Ron, they are still looking around all the signs with the word on it, to no avail. Finally, a local helps them decode the word. By then the two first two team at the Roadblock already finish their chopping and heading for Reunification Palace, the pit stop.

One after another, teams reach the chop shop, and no one seems to beat others in the process. Lance and Kerri are still quarelling which way to go, and they become the second last team to arrive. However, Lance decides to simply rip the VCRs with his hands, tearing every pieces out, which make them catch up a lot of time. Meanwhile, Marcy and Ron are still on the way. While Flight Time and Big Easy and Meghan and Cheyne are neck and neck on their way to the pit stop, Flight Time and Big Easy outrun the couple by a few seconds, earning them a first place of this leg and a trip to Aruba. Other teams finish the leg by the following order, Mike and Gary, Brian and Ericka, Sam and Dan, Maria and Tiffany, Mika and Canaan.

Marcy and Ron get to the Roadblock after both lance and Kerri and Zev and Justin leave. It’s another footrace between the two teams, and Zev and Justin win. Good news is both teams are safe. Marcy and Ron are the last team to arrive, and they are eliminated from the race. It’s a pity to see them go, I think they have the potential of going far in the race, the detour eats up too much of their time. Anyway, best wishes to them.

The Emmy-winning (seven times in a row) reality show, the Amazing Race is back for its fifteenth season. This is the first time that we saw an interracial couple in this show, and two professional poker players.

And the show began with a big twist! One team will be eliminated right before they start to travel around the world. The teams are given a task to find a license plate with the name from their first stop in Japan. It take some of them quite a few minutes to realise that the Japanese characters on the clues are clues to this task, eventually the others figure out as well. Married yoga teachers Eric and Lisa missed the last plate when they are searching from left to right, and is the first team eliminated. ( This new twist was a great idea, it added a lot of suspense to the opening seconds of the show. But, I felt very pity to Eric and Lisa, a trip of a lifetime like this was taken away before they even got in the car, it really sucks. I don’t know what I would react if I were them. )

Hilariously, the 11 teams got in a reality show in Japan, the first Roadblock they took. All teams had to stand around a sushi roulette and ate whatever landed right before them. Anyone who got to eat a wasabi roll (lots of wasabi in it, it’s no fun) and finish it within two minutes could continue. To make the show a bit funny, there was Godzilla pictures and some funny voices everywhere. Maria (one of the poker player) and Brian (husband of the interracial couple) were the only two that had to eat the roll twice, poor them.

But the funnier part was the next task they took. Each team had to lead 20 Japanese people through the most busy crossroad in Tokyo to a shrine, the pit stop. At first, it doesn’t seem to be difficult to finish after Meghan and Cheyne first checked in, however some teams didn’t have that kind of luck of having help from other people. Maria and Tiffany lost two of their team mates, and after searching for quite some time, they gave up and took the penalty. They were lucky that this was not a elimination leg, but they would face a Speed Bump on the next leg. (I don’t remember that there had been any non-elimination leg in the first trip in previous seasons, though I might be wrong. It seems that this was because of the new twist. But I have a feeling that the producers wanted to keep the only female team in this game for sometime, and changed the plan at the last minute. )

The second leg started right away. They were to fly to Vietnam. Some of them booked their tickets through Internet, smart moves. While the rest went straight to the air port and were told there were no economic seats available, however, Brian managed to persuaded the clerk to make seats for them. Wow. So all teams were on the same plane.

At the airport, everyone learned that Maria and Tiffany lied about their professions, making them a big target for the other teams. (It’s really a dumb move to lie, you have to come out with 100 more lies to cover it up. And to lie that they were working with homeless children, that was silly. My dislike to poker players widens.)

Many of them managed to get on the first bus and left for their next clue. A few teams were left behind, but they bribed the drivers some more money and had the bus leave earlier. (Which made me wonder, this kind of act should be considere illegal and the teams should receive penalty at the end of the leg. While apparently they were fine. )

The dock were to open in the morning, so they got grouped again. The task is to cover a tree’s roots in mud, an easy job? No. The mud was very thick, and everyone was struggling. While the Speed Bump that Maria and Tiffany had to do was a really easy one, they just had to carry some food for the guard near the dock. So they caught up with some of the teams.

After that, the teams faced their final task (Roadblock) for the leg, herding ducks. Each team had to herd a group of ducks out of the pen, moved them across a bridge, then back over the bridge and into their pen. Both women of the couples, Ericka and Jessica, were having troubles.

Matt finished it really quick, and together with Gary they checked in first. Zev was also quite good at this.

Jessica managed to get through on the third try, but it was too late for them. They were the second team being eliminated from the Race.

Betsy and Russell (the Evil) had a conversation the morning after the first tribal council. Russell (the Evil) found out she could cause problem for him, and decided to target her. He grouped with Jaison and openly admitted that he was looking for the immunity idol!

( Now, although there was no formal announcement of the existence of the idol, anyone that had joined this program should have known that the IDOL(S) exist. The fact that Russell (the Evil) was the only one looking for it made me wondered, had all the 20 contestants ever watched or heard about Survivor? And even when he openly admitted he was looking for it, NO ONE care about it. Wow, these guys deserves to be doomed. )

Russell (the Evil) had not much trouble in finding the idol, and he shared the secret with Jaison, which I think was a dumb move.

This episode still had only one challenge, for reward and immunity. The reward was fishing gear. Both tribes sent three team mates into the field, and grabbed a ball and threw it to another three members who were on the platform, then the three would shoot it into the opposite side’s basket. First tribe to get three wins.

Things were getting ugly in the field, slamming, hitting, cheat shots. Jeff had to call for a time-out and warned both tribes that he would expel anyone who make another cheat shot. However, Ben didn’t listen, he kicked Russell ( the good) very hard, and became the first one in Survivor history that were sent out in a competition. But he seemed to care for nothing, calling himself an “outlaw”. Foa Foa lost the challenge, mostly because of Ben’s fault, and partly because Mike’s not that physically strong.

Galu received a note along with the reward, they might send a member to Foa Foa to observe them until it’s time to vote in the tribal council. Russell (the good) sent Yasmin.

Then medical team was called in to check up Mike, who had suffered from some critical health issue after the challenge. The team felt very concern about Mike’s health, as his blood pressure was dropping, and they decided to pull him out of the game. Though I didn’t think Mike could stay long in this game, but going out of this game like this sucked.

Back at Foa Foa’s camp, Yasmin went at Ben, saying his tackling with her was disrespectful to women. Then both of them just acted like six-year old children. Later that night, Ben got up and making noises that everyone could not sleep well. His uncertain attitude made him a target and Foa Foa discussed getting rid of him.

At the tribal council, everyone agreed that they were on the same boat, though Jeff wasn’t sure. When asked about being the first one to be kicked out of the competition, Ben said the rules were sissy. What an attitude! However, despite all his uncertain and childish moves, Russell (the Evil)’s plan still worked out. Betsy got voted out. And she got all the votes. I could understand that Russell (the Evil) pulled most of them to vote with him, but everyone voting against Betsy, wow. I just can’t wait to see what Russell (the Evil) could pull out next.

Survivor has returned for the 19th season, with the biggest villain. This season, we are brought to the beautiful South Pacific island, Samoa.

The 20 contestants were divided into two tribes (Galu and Foa Foa) before they arrived in the island, but they got to elect for their leaders right away. Galu picked Russell (the good), while Foa Foa went for Mick. (Being a leader at this stage is more like a curse, good luck to them in the future. )

Mick made great choices in their first challenge, he chose Jaison as the swimmer, Russell (the Evil) as the strongest person, Marissa the agile person, Liz the smartest. While Russell (the good) made some bad choices by picking John, Erik, Yasmin and Shambo.

The swimmer swam out to retrieve a key. The strong person then unlock a bundle of heavy locks and set them up as steps. The agile person then climb the steps and make their way across a set of balance beams. Lastly the smart person unlocked a set of puzzle pieces and put them together. Foa Foa won the first challenge with a flint.

After they arrived at the camp, everybody started to work, while Russell (the Evil) began carrying out his plan of bringing chaos to this tribe. He formed separate and secret alliances with what he thought were dumb girls, and with Betsy, who he believed smarter than other girls. However, being a police officer, Betsy sensed Russell (the Evil) was lying.

At Galu, Shambo was having some trouble getting along with the youths who are in their 20s.

That night, Russell (the Evil) lied about his “miserable” story in Hurricane Katrina. Most people seemed to believe him that he almost laughed out. Then, we saw him emptying everyone’s water and burning someone’s sock in the fire. Yes, now you know why I called him the Evil.

For the immunity challenge, six members of each tribe raced across three A-frames, carrying ropes. Then they used the ropes to pull a heavy crate, and the other four dismantled the crate and use the puzzle pieces (again) to form a saying. Galu was first to get the crate, and though they had some trouble on the puzzle at first, they managed to put it together faster. Galu won immunity.

Back at camp, Mike tried to turned the attention onto the young girls, because he’s the oldest one and he literally did nothing in the first two challenges. He targeted Ashley as the weakest and some people agreed with him. While Marissa made a dumb move by telling Russell (the Evil) that she was wary of him, making her the target. Russell (the Evil) started to talk everyone into voting her out. He believed he’s running the game, though Betsy began to tell other girls about her suspicion. (However, people tend to believe no one at this very stage of the game.)

At tribal council, Mike tried to target Ashley. Betsy, when asked, chose Ashley as the weakest link. And Russell (the Evil) called out Marissa. As Jeff read the votes, Russell’s (the Evil) plan worked out. Marissa was the first person voted out.

P.S. They’ve upped the contestants to 20, so we are going to see some massive cut in the future episodes. And we should be seeing Russell (the Evil) for some time, as he’s been advertised as the biggest villain on the show.
